Vos Logistics joins the Green Freight Europe Program
Vos Logistics joins the Green Freight Europe Program. It is an initiative to intensify collaboration between shippers, logistics providers and governments. The initiative aligns with the Vos Logistics sustainability policy Eco-safe-logistics.
Green Freight Europe is a voluntary and independent program for improving environmental performance of road freight transport in Europe. It is inspired by the SmartWay Partnership program in the United States. The European Shippers' Council and the Dutch shippers’ organization EVO are providing the secretariat for Green Freight Europe.
The initiative was launched in March 2012 and aims to establish a European standard system for collecting, analyzing and monitoring CO2 emissions from road freight operations. The program drives reductions of carbon footprint by:
- Establishing a platform for monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions, to assist in the procurement of transportation services and is based on existing standards
- Promoting collaboration between carriers and shippers in driving improvement actions and monitoring progress
- Establishing a certification system to reward shippers and carriers who fully participate in the program

At the heart of Vos Logistics' sustainability policy is “Eco-safe-logistics”, a strategy targeting three areas the company has a direct influence on: Technology, Operations and Premises. Leading is the reduction of CO2 emissions with 20% between 2010 and 2015. Besides the environmental agenda the policy has also a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction. The membership of the Green Freight Europe Program will support Vos Logistics to reach its objectives towards clean, safe and efficient logistics solutions.
Frank Verhoeven, CEO of Vos Logistics: “I am very happy to join the initiative of Green Freight Europe. We believe that the main challenge for sustainable logistics is to reduce the empty transport capacity on the European roads. Realization requires a different vision and approach whereby shippers, providers and governments should come to fundamental changes in the way of working. This can only be realized through strong collaboration between partners. Green Freight Europe can play a vital role in this process.”
