Vos Logistics improves its sustainability performance again in 2011
European logistics service provider Vos Logistics further improved its sustainability performance in 2011. In its Sustainability Report 2011, published today, Vos Logistics presents the progress of its Eco-safe-logistics action program for 2010-2015. Through its policy of safe and environmentally-friendly transport and logistics solutions, Vos Logistics is meeting the demands of its customers in the firm belief that sustainability can strengthen the economic foundations of the company and its customers. Vos Logistics' policy is directed at clean and efficient goods transport, for example by reducing the number of empty kilometres, optimising the load factor and using Ecocombis and multimodal transport. Vos Logistics also innovates with the use of alternative fuels such as LNG. To drive safely and efficiently, it also gives high priority to the Behaviour-Based training of its drivers.
Carbon footprint further reduced
In 2011 Vos Logistics reduced its CO2 emission by 2% from 0.0430 kg per tonne/km to 0.0421 kg per tonne/km. The improvement was driven by modern vehicles, fewer empty kilometres (better load efficiency) and greater use of multimodal transport. Nearly 19% of international shipments are now carried by train or ship. Part of the vehicle fleet has also been renewed. 270 tractor units, for example, have been replaced Euro 5 trucks and 15 additional LNG trucks have been ordered and will be taken into service in 2012. The average euro standard increased from 3.80 to 4.23. Thanks to its more efficient organisation and energy awareness policy, Vos Logistics also succeeded in reducing the CO2 emission of its by 7% from 23.72 kg to 21.91 kg per m2. The goal is to reduce the total carbon footprint by 20% between 2009 and 2015.
Investing in quality and safety
Vos Logistics made significant investments in safety and quality in 2011. ‘Behaviour-Based Safety courses’ were organised for drivers. New driver manuals were introduced to explain to drivers and subcontractors what is required of them to carry out their profession properly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and Vos Logistics' own safety and quality requirements.
Frank Verhoeven, CEO of Vos Logistics, said: “We again made good progress in 2011, mainly by embedding sustainability more deeply in our company. It is now an integral part of our Values Of Service. Sustainability's relevance to our company is underlined by the positive response from the market. We started to organise customer panels in 2011 so that we can match our sustainability policy to the wishes of our customers and study how we can achieve our common goals together."
The Sustainability Report was prepared in accordance with the widely accepted Global Reporting Initiative guidelines (GRI).
